Last Friday, I officially met with my hematologists and I received the approval to move forward with HSCT!!! I am equally scared and excited for the long journey ahead. Starting with a trip to the fertility specialist to freeze some eggs.
There is one thing that has become very clear since the HSCT journey, and that is how lucky I am to have the support system I have! My parents, aunts and uncles, grandparents and friends have all stepped up to the plate to help me. In the coming months, my mom will be flying out to help me go wig shopping.
Over the next week, I will be getting my official stem cell calendar. It will have all the important dates; including the start date and the date I get my port put in! After talking to the doctors, it sounds like the line will be put in the first week of June. Two weeks later I do the harvest, and another two weeks following that I start the long road of chemo.
In June, I am going to do video of shaving my head, and will be raising money for my MS walk team. My goals between now and June are to be as strong as physically possible. Currently, I am boxing four times a week. Now that the weather is nice, I am trying to run three times a week as well. If I am lucky, I get in a long hike and a lift or two as well. I am eating healthy and focusing on being my healthiest self. I had a high point in the doctor’s office when they told me I can still train during chemo/stem cell. I hope to still do a walk/jog every day of treatment, since boxing was vetoed.
HSCT is going to be a crazy journey and I can’t wait to start this process. Thank you for coming on this journey with me.
